House Clearance FAQs

Answers to the questions we are asked most often. If you can't find what you need, give us a call – we are always happy to help.

Prices & quotes

How much does a house clearance cost?

Every property is different, so we price each job individually based on how much there is, what it is and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work is booked. See our house clearance prices page for what affects the cost.

Are your quotes free?

Yes. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to book.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes. Clear photos or a short video of each room, the loft, garage and garden usually let us give an accurate price without a visit.

Do you charge a deposit?

No. For standard domestic clearances you pay the agreed price once the job is finished.

Will the price change on the day?

Not unless the job changes – for example if extra rooms or items are added. Any change is agreed with you before we do extra work.

Can valuable items reduce the cost?

Yes. Where furniture or contents have resale value, we take this into account when we quote.

On the day

How long does a clearance take?

Most houses are cleared in one day. Small jobs such as a single room, a loft or a garage often take a few hours.

Do I need to be at the property?

No. We can collect keys from you, a neighbour, a solicitor or an estate agent and send photos when the job is done.

Do you leave the property clean?

We sweep through every room we clear so the property is left tidy. If you need a professional deep clean, we can recommend local cleaners.

How do I show you what to keep?

Give us a list, put stickers on items, or walk round with us on the day. Anything marked to keep stays where it is.

What happens to photos, documents and valuables?

Anything personal or important – photographs, letters, bank paperwork, wills, jewellery, keys or cash – is set aside and handed back to you.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the diary, but we can often clear within a few days of your call and sometimes sooner for urgent jobs.

What we take

What do you take?

Almost everything in a normal home: furniture, beds, mattresses, white goods, carpets, clothes, books, ornaments, kitchenware, garden furniture, tools and loft or garage contents.

Is there anything you can't take?

We cannot take asbestos, clinical waste or gas bottles, and large amounts of paint or chemicals may need to go to a recycling centre. We will tell you before quoting.

Do you take fridges and freezers?

Yes. They go to facilities that recover the gases safely.

Do you take sofas and armchairs?

Yes. Upholstered seating that may contain POPs is taken to the correct facility rather than landfill.

Recycling

Do you recycle?

Yes. Reusable furniture and goods are donated or resold, materials such as metal, wood, card, textiles and electricals are recycled, and only what is left goes to licensed disposal.

Can items go to a particular charity?

Tell us which charity your family would like to support and we will do our best to take suitable items there.

Why should I check a clearance company is registered?

Householders have a legal duty of care for their waste. If it is fly-tipped by an unregistered carrier, it can be traced back to you. You can check any waste carrier on the Environment Agency public register.

Areas & services

Which areas do you cover?

Alnwick and a 30-mile radius, including Amble, Rothbury, Wooler, Belford, Seahouses, Bamburgh, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Morpeth, Ashington, Blyth and Cramlington.

Do you clear bereavement and probate properties?

Yes. We work with families, executors and solicitors, at a pace that suits you, and can invoice the estate.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. We clear properties between tenancies quickly and can take instructions and keys directly from agents.

Do you help with hoarding?

Yes. We offer discreet, non-judgemental hoarding clearance and can work with families and support workers.

Do you clear businesses?

Yes – offices, shops, pubs, guest houses, holiday lets and storage units.
