Understanding and discreet
For someone who hoards, letting others into the home and parting with belongings can be extremely hard. We never judge, rush or lecture. Our job is to make the home safe and comfortable again, working alongside the person wherever possible.
How we work
- A private visit to understand the home and what the person wants
- A plan agreed in advance – which rooms first, what to keep, what to check
- Clearing at a steady pace, in stages if that helps
- Unmarked, plain approach so neighbours are not drawn in
- Items to keep set aside and returned to an agreed place
Working with families and professionals
We often work with family members, social workers, support workers, housing officers and landlords. We can keep everyone updated and work to a plan agreed by the people involved.
Safety first
Heavily hoarded homes can hide hazards – blocked exits, damp, pests, sharp objects and unstable piles. We assess the property, use appropriate protective equipment and clear routes through the home first. If specialist cleaning is needed afterwards, we can recommend a deep-clean service.
Finding valuables and paperwork
Hoarded homes often contain cash, bank cards, important letters and items of sentimental value. We go carefully and set these aside rather than clearing in bulk without checking.
